Yuri Fujiyama

Hand pierced silver pendant
silver donated by John Lazos and Associates

I admire traditional art and craft works. I became inspired for this series of works from a traditional Japanese craft technique called sashiko. Sashiko is embroidery that, especially throughout the Edo period, farming women used to patch their clothes at a time when a piece of cloth was considered extremely valuable. I love the attractive, yet delicate look in their simplicity.
I use a 20 tonne power hydraulic press to form the metal. The metal thickness used is about 0.6 millimetres. Therefore each piece is very light and comfortable to wear, and also durable.

Lisa Crawford Jones

Double blossom hook ear rings
oxidised sterling silver

Lisa Crawford Jones completed an Advanced Diploma in Engineering Technology (gold and silver smithing) in 2009 at NMIT after working for more than a decade in media and communications across Australia.
Now based in Melbourne and having found the perfect medium for expression, Lisaユs work celebrates the cycles of life using traditional gold and silversmithing techniques and modern casting technology.
Lisa is drawn to the richness of patterns and texture and is fascinated by ancient earth myths and traditions man uses to give meaning to life.
Precious and semi-precious gemstones and decorative techniques such as granulation are used to reflect themes common to all human experience.
These ear rings were made using granulation and casting. The ends are threaded and will screw off to allow the hook through pierced ears.
Lisa's work is available at e.g.etal in Melbourne.

Phoebe Porter + Blanche Tilden

General Assembly brooch
Aluminium, Glass, Stainless steel

Sharing passion for making and a commitment to contemporary jewellery practice, Phoebe Porter and Blanche Tilden founded Studio Hacienda in 2005.
Their first collaborative project, GENERAL ASSEMBLY, invited the public to select from pre-fabricated parts to creat their own souvenir brooch - so far over 250 people have participated in this project, which received a Victorian Premier's Design Mark in 2008.

"GENERAL ASSEMBLY exemplifies Potrer and Tilden's common ground: working in multiples, exploring the individual impulse to select, combine and adorn, alertness to the ubiquitous conversation though the object. That's Studio Hacienda." - Merryn Gates, Courtesy Powerhouse Museum, 2007
