Daryl Fitzgerald
On the Auction night, we will have Daryl Fitzgerrald's work on the display at Manchester Press.
Daryl Fitzgerald interest in spray painting interest began with an interesting mix of stencils. It was during his architectural studies in London where he was exposed to a wide range of cultural iconography that he was increasingly drawn to Hokusai's prints with their similarities between spraypainting, and woodblock prints.
After starting a little venture in Melbourne, Daryl has created a series of installations that relate to the use of redundant materials, the expression of potential, and their absorption of the past.
After the disasters that have struck Japan he is auctioning two of them to raise money for the Red Cross Disaster Appeal. The installations were based on two of Hokusai's prints from 36 Views of Fuji, with a reference to traditional Japanese literature.
Currently the auction has been happening at an art stall he has at Rose Street Market in Fitzroy.
